Not only has Korea spread it's music and television dramas to a fever pitch here in the Philippines, even their food has captivated our taste buds. The Bingsu in particular, has become so popular, that its virtually impossible to go to a mall and not find a restaurant or stand that specializes on Korea's beloved shaved ice treat!
The newest name to watch out for in Bingsu has got to be Snowbing! My food friends and I dropped by SM North Edsa on a scorching Saturday to cool down over some delicious, Korean frozen treats!
The SM North Edsa branch of Snowbing is actually their second, with their first outlet located at Trinoma. However what makes the SM North Edsa branch special, is how it serves a whole lot more than just Bingsu! The charming little cafe also serves a mouthwatering selection of pizzas and Pastas for you to enjoy before diving into your frozen treat!
PIZZA AND PASTA
We began with the creamy Salted Egg Pasta (P198). Which was a delicious salted egg cream sauce, topped with chunks of smoked bacon, topped over al dente noodles.
I really loved the Korean Pizza (P120). The bits of shredded Bulgogi were so flavorful, adding a wonderful savoriness to what was already a cheesy pizza. I would definitely go back for this!
Being the bread lover that I am, I was more than game to try some of Snowbing's Toast offerings. I always feel it's best to start with the basic Honey Butter (P188) when trying out toasts. Since this will more or less be the base of the other variants, it's good to see if the basic flavor is any good, and Snowbing's is phenomenal. Soft and fluffy, while maintaining a remarkable butteriness, I would be perfectly happy with this for merienda. The White and Dark Chocolate (P188) felt more like a dessert. but a delicious one at that. The epitome of Yin and Yang flavors fusing together to form a balanced, sweet concoction
SNOWBING
So it was finally time for the main event.. The reason why we were at Snowbing.. The Bingsu! We began with the Matcha Green Tea (P188). Truthfully I'm not a fan of Matcha at all, so I skipped this. My companions who are Matcha Maniacs swore that it was amazing though.
The Cheezy Mango (P168) was more to my liking. Sort of like a Bingsu version of a "Mango cheesecake", this delicious creation had chunks of refreshing mango laid over milky shaved ice, and topped with crumbled Graham crackers.
Chocolate lovers won't be able to get enough of the Choco Brownie (P188). Decadent Chocolate Shaved Ice drizzled with Chocolate Syrup, bits of gooey Brownies, a sprinkling of nuts, and a scoop of Ice Cream.
Perhaps the most refreshing Bingsu on the menu of Snowbing, is the Tropical Fruit (P168). Deliciously creamy Shaved Milk is speckled with a medley of fresh fruits, such as grapes, watermelon, mango and Kiwi, topped with a dollop of Whipped Cream.
My favorite of the lot we tried, was the Strawberries and Cream (P168). When I was a child, whenever my dad would come home from Baguio, he'd bring home with him a whole bunch of strawberries, which my yaya would douse in cream, condensed milk, and a bit of sugar before freezing it. It sounds so simple but it was pure bliss. One bite of this, reminded me of that magical time. The Fresh Strawberries added a little tartness that was balanced by the creaminess of the Vanilla Ice Cream and the sweetness of the strawberry syrup.
I'm looking forward to coming back to Snowbing soon, to trying the other Pizza, Pastas and Bingsus on my next visit! I also hope that more branches will open up around Metro Manila in the near future!!
