Perhaps the most famous Xiao Long Bao restaurant in the world, is Din Tai Fung. In fact in can be argued that it is the most famous restaurant to come from Taiwan, and despite the numerous food choices available, no trip to Taipei is complete without visiting Din Tai Fung.
This rings true even for a foodie such as myself, because I found myself at Taipei late last year, and despite there being two branches of Din Tai Fung in Metro Manila, my friends and I found it mandatory to visit the branch near Yong Kang Street.
Rina and I got word of a new promo that Din Tai Fung Philippines came out with that was perfect for Rain, so we thought we would take her to the branch at Bonifacio Square so she could get her fill of her favorite Shao Mai and Xia Long Bao, and earn prizes at the same time with her Din Tai Fung Kiddie Club Passport!
Given the height of her mother and I, it was clear that my beautiful daughter will never be in the running for Asia's Next Top Model, so we were pretty confident she would make the height requirement to be part of the Din Tai Fung Kiddie Club!
This was my first time to visit the Bonifacio High Street Branch of Din Tai Fung, and I was quite surprised with how spacious the place is. It has the old school Chinese restaurant vibe, imbued with modern touches for a more contemporary feel.
They also follow the orderly seating arrangement as the MegaMall Branch, which helps control the high demand of seats.
Rain couldn't wait to fill up her passport, as soon as we sat down! The passport asked her to fill up some information, such as her name, a drawing of herself, and her favorite Din Tai Fung dish (Siomai)!

Afterwards, I got to work and ordered our lunch. At Din Tai Fung, you fill up a checklist of the items you want to order, and hand it to the waiter, and your orders are brought to you in an a very timely manner that left Rina and I quite impressed!
THE FOOD
VEGETABLES
Rina asked for some vegetables (Not familiar with the spelling, sorry) in lieu of rice, so she ordered the Stir Fried Broccoli Leaf (P165). No idea if it was any good. Kayo na mag usap hehe..
It is mandatory for me to order a Sweet and Sour dish, at every Chinese restaurant I feast at, and this was the first time I would try DTF's Sweet and Sour Pork (P245). It's quite delicious, and I was not disappointed, but to be honest, I wouldn't consider it upon the upper echelon of Sweet and Sour Pork dishes I've tried (Although naubos ko 😂).
The Crispy Beef Strips (P235), on the other hand, was quite the revelation. This was nothing short of spectacular. Despite the crispy exterior, the Beef still had a wonderful tenderness to it, and was seasoned beautifully. The little specs of chili also helped give more pronouncement to the wonderful flavor of the beef.
I also enjoyed the Noodles and Minced Pork Sauce (P135). It had bit of minced Chinese Chorizo in it, giving it a subtle sweetness, almost reminding me of - and I know it's gonna sound weird- but an oriental version of my mom's spaghetti.
Although there are a few unique variants to the DTF's Xiao Long Bao, I'm more than satisfied with their classic Pork Xiao Long Bao (P315 for 10 pcs/P160 for 5 pcs). The skin has the right density so that it doesn't easily tear when picked up, but delicate enough for the broth to burst into your mouth when you bite into it.
THE DIN TAI FUNG KIDDIE CLUB
After our meal, Rain asked to skip dessert because she so excited to get her first stamp for her
