A BIG YES TO NONO'S BY CLASSIC CONFECTIONS

I was invited to Nono's by Classic Confections a few months back, when they opened their first branch at U.P. Town Center. Unfortunately, since I rarely frequent Quezon City, I as unable to visit them. Thankfully though, the opening of the newly renovated Podium Mall has helped create room for more restaurant establishments, paving the way for Nono's to find another home in Ortigas!

Nono's is the brainchild of Chef Baba Ibazeta-Benedicto, the woman behind the patisserie, "Classic Confections". Chef Baba took classic comfort foods and gave it her own twist, creating dishes that are unique but familiar at the same time.

I noticed Nono's during my visit to the new branch of Paradise Dynasty, because it is actually located just next door. I instantly marked it as one of the restaurants that I will definitely visit in the near future. Luckily for me, it didn't take that long for me to check Nono's off that list.

Nono's has a very homey, welcoming vibe, which is punctuated by the genuine warmth of the service staff. When you dine at Nono's you don't feel like a customer, but more like a guest in someone's home, and they genuinely want you to enjoy your experience.

STARTERS

Our meal began with the Fried Truffle Cheese Wantons (P155), which may as well have been called, "Little Drops of Heaven".  Mozzarella and Cheddar Cheese are stuffed into Wantons, then deep fried to perfection, then drizzled with honey and truffle oil.

The distinct flavors of each component works harmoniously with one another, making it impossible to eat only just one.

If you want to know what the best shrimp dishes in the country are, ask me. Because I don't usually eat shrimp, so if I actually do enjoy a shrimp dish, you can be rest assured that it's nothing short of awesome.

And the Shrimp with Candied Walnuts (P375) is part of that list. Imagine plump, crispy Shrimps are breaded, and tossed with caramelized Walnuts, into a creamy citrus dressing, and served with Fried Wanton Chips. It was nothing short of phenomenal.

I'm pretty sure I've made it clear that I'm not a big fan of Salads, but Nono's Summer Salad (P355) was actually pretty good. Since it was made with Seasonal fruits and Organic Mixed Greens, it had a natural sweetness to it, while the influx of Parmesan Crips, Candied Walnuts and Almonds, are tossed in for added texture and flavor. The Honey Lemon Dressing and Balsamic Glaze just cohesively brings the salad together.

ENTREES

Nono's Mac N' Cheese (P395 add P125 to add Bacon) is excellent. Made with perfectly Al Dente Shell Pasta, that is topped with Creamy Gruyere Cheese, balanced by shredded Sharp Cheddar, and infused with a luscious Parmesan Cheese Sauce.

I know Rina would absolutely go nuts over Nono's Prawn Thermidor (P595). Juicy Prawns are generously topped with a medley of Gruyere, Parmesan and Mozzarella Cheeses, then served with Creamy Mashed Potatoes.

The Roasted Beef Belly (P495) was more up my alley. Three delectable slices of slow roasted USDA Beef Belly are drizzled with Balsamic Glaze, which complimented the savoriness of the melt in your mouth meat. The Beef Belly slices are served on a bed of Mashed Potatoes, and a side of Horseradish Cream.

One of Nono's bestsellers, is Nono's Homestyle Fried Chicken (P565).. And for good reason. It's pretty spectacular.

Two Pieces of Crispy Boneless Chicken Fillet are served with a rich Country Style Gravy and Honey. The blending of the Gravy and Honey is the melding of sweet and savory, and works wonderfully with the Golden Chicken Fillet.

The dish is served with soft Dinner Rolls, corn on the cob, and a choice of fries or Rice. It's really quite a sight to behold, and a MUST order when visiting Nono's!

DESSERT

A great way to end your meal at Nono's is with the Chocolate Oblivion (P155) by Classic Confections. It's a flourless Chocolate let allows you to indulge in a bit of sweetness, without worrying about overdoing it.

There is actually a whole lineup of desserts to choose from, so you can be sure that dessert is as exciting as your actual meal!

Amazing food and awesome company.. What more could you ask for?

Thank you Tin, Chef Baba and the entire staff of Nono's for the incredible meal. I'm so glad that they opened a branch at Podium, making it so much easier for me to drop by for a spectacular meal.. which I plan to do so again very soon!
