We can't quite clearly remember if this was the first ever Indonesian buffet that we've tried but this is definitely the one that stuck! Oakwood Hotel's The Nostalgia Dining Lounge features a delicious Indonesian Food Festival which started last September 8 until the 18th, 2015. It's funny because Richie was supposed to just drop by that day because he had an important appointment. But he ended up staying for a while. That's how good the food was!
The guests chefs are Executive Chef Deden Suherman with his Sous Chef Sulistyo Antonius who are from Oakwood Premier Cozmo in Jakarta, Indonesia. So if you're asking if this is authentic Indonesian food, yes it is!
To complete the ambiance, Oakwood has set up for an Indonesian cultural dancer to perform during the launch.
Aside from the Indonesian dancer, we were greeted with a glass of Cendol on our table. It's this really refreshing iced drink which reminds me of a halo-halo. It's got coconut milk and some soft noodle-like rice flour on the bottom. It's perfect for the Philippine's tropical weather.
As soon as we headed to the buffet area. a beautiful and colorful spread of
Indonesian classics awaits us.
For starters, I really enjoyed this Soto Ayam Madura, which is a chicken soup with turmeric. The broth is really tasty and comforting. A great way to warm up the tummy before youf full-tummy exercise of buffet-eating.
Sous Chef Sulistyo Antonius mans the live station cooking up some delicious seafood! The squid in particular was really soft!
All the seafood really tasted fresh!
Their satay was very tasty. It's hard to have just one stick.
Right by the carving station, the Kambing Bakar Sambal Kecap, or roast leg of lamb with Indonesian spices was the star of the carving station, and also one of our favorites. Especially with that sweet salty and a bit spicy sauce!
Lamb at its finest! Very tender and juicy!
The Indonesian cuisine definitely has a lot of flavors going on which keeps your taste buds asking for more.
Richie particularly enjoyed the Mie Goreng. In fact I think he went back 2 times for this. Then he even got my share when I was starting to feel full.
I loved the shrimps too! It had just the right touch of heat!
I'm always drawn towards beef stews. And this Rendang Padang did not disappoint! Perfect with rice!
And don't forget dessert! They have a section filled with lots of colorful sticky rice deserts. The Sticky mango rice of course is everyone's favorite. Behold the dessert gallery!:
Nostalgia Lounge's Indonesian Food Festival Weekday Lunch Buffet is P 999 net per person. They do have set menus too for lunch and dinner.
